Here are the advantages:
{1} People are paying attention to the forum. It's not the red-headed stepchild of a dying newspaper. That means that any techincal issues which arise can be addressed in a timely manner.
{2} Within reason, the forum is member-driven... right down to the theme and colors if possible. The Proboards software is fairly versatile and open source so there's quite a bit of "mods" available if everyone really wants something specific to be added.
{3} The forum is marketable to others via built-in tools. It's not just a tiny, sometimes dead link at the bottom of the page of a dying newspaper's website. That means we can attract new voices to enhance the eclectic tone that current members already bring making it even more fun and interesting.
{4} Other than spam and content that directly violates Proboards terms of service (pornography, etc.), for the most part, it's un-moderated. That means you can speak your mind freely, and without repercussions from other members-turned-censors policing the posts.
{5} This place won't wear out your scroll wheel (yet).

Also, as I've said before, if you didn't like me --basura blanca-- on the other forum (forums to be exact, as I've used that handle many places over the years), you can ignore me here too. I don't use the admin account to post opinions. In this incarnation, I'm just the guy with the jackhammer.

Plus it's more intimate here and I feel as though I can speak more freely without a forum thug coming after me. Over at the old forum when I go there, I look at the threads and see little that interest me. And then I think of all the fighting that goes on over there and I have lost most of my appetite to post there.
Of course there isn't much going on here yet so it's kind of boring. If you want more people to interact with you still need to go to the old forum for that. Hopefully that will change over time.

Happy to hear this: (oh chit-wrong smiley delete former one) add the correct one: {4} Other than spam and content that directly violates Proboards terms of service (pornography, etc.), for the most part, it's un-moderated. Why post here? Because if you don't, I will , and do you really want me to do that? Do you really want to hurt me like that?

On top of horrible Culture Club vids, you are free to create as many duck threads as you wish here. There will be no avian discrimination whatsoever.

Thank you Basura Blanca...It feels like this place is a lot more real than that other place. (hell! that smiley is far better than the Amish ones!)

Thank you Basura Blanca...It feels like this place is a lot more real than that other place. (hell! that smiley is far better than the Amish ones!) GG is the smiley guy. He even takes requests. More importantly, I'm really glad you showed up. The UT forum is sort of a double-edged sword in that if I post there, more people maybe see the link for over here but at the expense of my dignity (I'm kidding, I'm kidding... it's a fine place even though you can't say things like "fuck" because heaven forbid there be naughty language on the interwebs).

When I first started posting over at UT I was right-leaning, though not as far to the right as most of the usual suspects-- probably more along the lines of Bullseye. Can't believe I've been on that forum for 13 years now. (!) Anyway, I'm the rare case (I guess) of someone getting more liberal as they get older.

In general, I've just become more of a dick over the years.

I haven't checked on the UT forums in ages, but since they just revamped their site, I was curious to see if their forum was still around. There is no longer a link (at least none I found) - to get to the pages I had to google, "San Diego Union Tribune forums". It will be interesting to see if they add a link in the next few days.

Did you check in the obituaries? Maybe?

Not before, but ya got me thinking about it, so I just did. There is a dropdown menu for "Obituaries" whereas some sections don't have dropdowns, but when you click it, the only choice is "Death Notices". Yanno, for those people who don't know the definition of obituary.
